BERLIN, Germany– In a significant breakthrough, discussions between Vice Chancellor, Robert Habeck, and key representatives from Nigeria have paved the way for the accelerated implementation of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). The Nigerian delegation, comprising Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Doris Uzoka-Anite, Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Kenny Anuwe, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FGN Power Company, Nadja Haakansson, Siemens Energy Managing Director for Africa, Seun Suleiman, Managing Director Siemens Energy Nigeria, and Sean Manley, Siemens Energy Project Director convened to address critical aspects of the PPI’s implementation.
The discussions were centered on the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI), with a focus on expediting agreements for the programme as well as addressing key challenges in the transmission network. A consensus was achieved on the completion of financing for the pilot projects, coupled with a strategic rescoping of the programme through increased investments, particularly aimed at strengthening the transmission infrastructure.
Vice Chancellor Habeck emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between Nigeria and Germany to strengthen the power sector. The discussions were not only fruitful but also demonstrated the mutual commitment of both nations to advancing Nigeria’s Power Sector. This recognition extends to the pivotal role of an enhanced transmission network in ensuring sustained progress.
Vice Chancellor Habeck, in reaffirming Germany’s support for the Nigerian power sector and the PPI, expressed resilience in the face of potential modifications to the project, reiterating Germany’s commitment to the initially designed framework.
This development signifies a positive stride towards bolstered cooperation and advancement in the power sector, with both nations collaboratively addressing challenges and steering towards common goals, especially in the crucial area of transmission network enhancement.
